About Me

I'm Ember, a graduate of Falmouth University where I studied Game Design. I'm aiming to pursue post-graduate study before I go on to become a game designer as a career. I've worked on a variety of genres during my course, including several types of puzzle games (both 2D and 3D), adventure, platformers, hack and slash and simulators, as well as trying my hand atTTRPG mechanical design. I've refined my design philosophy to focus on the positive influence that games can have on players and the wider world, as I believe this medium above all others has the capacity to promote community and positive relations between consumers.

Games have had a heavy involvement in my life for a long time now, with my first interest in creating beyond just playing driving me to create small texture mods and stat changes in games like TESV: Skyrim and Fallout 4 around 6-8 years ago, and I've spent a lot of my free time over the last several years learning about games culture around IPs that I both have and haven't played - I've got a long-standing interest in everything surrounding the development, from mechanical design, the intricacies of programming, to the choices undertaken to support the stories they tell. It's a passion and love that I've had for as long as I've been playing, and I don't see it going anywhere soon.

I'm a good team player, having been a part of many group projects in a variety of contexts involving the academic, outdoor exploration, community work, and much more. I strive to be easy to work with and do my best to serve the interests of the collective while  offering my own unique influence on any given endeavour. I work well both in leadership roles and as a team worker, and I'm easily adaptable to the fluidity and challenge that group projects always invite, always enjoying a new problem to sink my teeth into and learn something new from.

I'm extremely excited to officially be involved with the games industry, and I intend to go onto become a full time game designer specialising in systems design, as well as hoping to develop my knowledeg to become an expert in my field. In this case I'll hopefully be able to consider teaching later in my career once I'm ready to pass the torch. I've always been fascinated by the unique interactions between systems, and games are all about that. It goes without saying that a well or poorly-designed system of mechanics will make or break a game to match. I'd like to spend my life gathering as much knowledge as I can within this field, as well as learning whatever I can about adjacent paths so as to most effectively work with a variety of development teams going forward.

I hope to have a positive influence on whatever projects I work on, and promote inclusivity and positivity throughout my work catalogue as it grows - as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, diversity and the fostering of a welcoming space for everyone is the most important part of team environments for me. After all, everyone deserves a fair chance to feel like they belong in the games sphere, whoever they are, and it's important to me that inclusivity only grows as time goes on - if I can be a part of furthering that, you can bet I'll be there.
